  • CoC (Continuum of Care) meeting at Salvation Army.  Made introduction between Dept. of Corrections representative and Melissa Grouneau, VA HUDVASH and also Aaron Lovelady, SSVF Salvation Army regarding a veteran who will be facing homelessness upon release soon.  Toured Salvation Army’s homeless shelter for families. 

1-11-17  Patty & Hutch:  

  • Greenway Manor – Vet-To-Vet Support Command Veterans’ Social Group 
  • Meeting with Amanda, Manager and Sean Simmons, District Manager of Starbucks Coffee Company regarding employee volunteerism and increasing awareness about their hiring of veterans and college benefits for employees who veterans and their family members.  Discussed connecting them with McConnell AFB Family Readiness Center and the Round Table for employers of veterans at the VA.

  • Met with veteran that needs connecting with a VSO who was referred to Hutch from Brad Gifford at the Wichita Vet Center

  • Met with Neil Fogg, Business Consultant and V2VSC Board Member, pending his approval of his opinion on the proficiency and professionalism of the VPCSC website

  • Visited Manager at Bradford Glen apartments – set up partnership to begin a monthly Vet-To-Vet Support Command Veterans’ Social Group.  

1-27-17  VPCSC Meeting – Guest speaker:  Sarah Sell, Director of Veteran Services, WSU.  Sarah’s presentation was OUTSTANDING and we had 55 in attendance with a number of newcomers.  Sedgwick County Commissioners Dave Dennis and Dave Unruh, Pam Chamberlain – Good Shepherd Hospice, Sean Simmons – Starbucks District Manager, leaders of residential care homes, Monica Castro from KAKE News, Midwest Battle Buddies’ new trainer along with King who is in training among others.

11-2-16 Hutch – Worked on KPTS event, inviting attendees.

  • Visited V2VSC Huston Unit members with concert tickets and QT drink coupons.
  • Received call from James Denison regarding widow of a veteran who is trying to sell a family members’ home that has disability capabilities. PG spoke to widow and connected her family member to a friend of Patty’s in real estate.
  • Received call from Cindy White, President of American Legion Post 4 Ladies’ Auxiliary about having donations for homeless veterans. Patty said she and Hutch would take items to Open Door and/or the winter shelter at Inter-Faith Ministries.

11-3-16 Patty:

  • Called Cindy White at Post 4 & let her know we have 2 veterans and their families to adopt for holidays.
  • Picked up tickets for Veterans’ Appreciation Concert at the Cotillion and delivered to several V2VSC members and WSU student veterans through our partnership.
  • Prepared for upcoming V2VSC Advisory Committee meeting.
  • Event coordination with Phil Richardson, KPTS, for their VCH event; followed up with Lee Bellinger in Public Affairs office at McConnell AFB, re: names of attendees from the 931st

11-4-16 Patty:

  • Picked up 3 WWII veterans and one’s wife from Georgetown Village and went to welcome home Kansas Honor Flight at the airport. Brought Rep. Mike Pompeo over to meet and greet them, took pictures.
  • Worked on KPTS Veterans Coming Home event.

11-5-16 (Saturday)

Hutch & Patty:

  • Rode in the Veteran’s Day Parade with Mayor Jeff Longwell.
  • Spoke to Rep. Mike Pompeo, Herb & Joann Duncan from Kansas Honor Flight, Kenny White – Post Commander of American Legion Post 4 and Amanda, the Veteran representative from Starbucks about establishing a partnership with V2VSC & VPCSC for the Veterans Awareness Expo 2017.
  • Patty picked up two V2VSC veterans for the Alpha 1 Drop Zone Veterans’ Appreciation Concert at the Cotillion.
  • Attended the Alpha 1 Drop Zone Veterans’ Appreciation Concert at the Cotillion along with over 60 veterans and supporters affiliated with VPCSC and Vet-To-Vet Support Command. V2VSC provided tickets for approximately 50 veterans to attend the concert.

11-7-16 Patty:

  • Contacted 451stArmy Reserve Unit, re: KPTS Veterans Coming Home event – 4 comp tickets; followed up with Phil Richardson at KPTS.
  • Received call from a veteran in the state hospital in Larned, KS group home who is seeking employment. Listened and gave him advice.
  • Call from daughter of WWII veteran in need of eyeglasses. Patty advocated & wrote a letter on V2VSC letterhead on behalf of the veteran and was able to get a local eyewear establishment to make his glasses at no cost through the OneSight program. She then delivered a copy of the letter to the establishment & to the veteran, visiting with him about the V2VSC program.
  • Received call from Sharon, retiree from McConnell AFB FRC offering to volunteer for the KPTS VCH event.
  • Contact from Carol Hirsh of Wichita Prairie Pilot Club wanting to connect Hutch & Patty with Dr. Cathie Hay, Director of Irlen Clinic of Wichita who has been working with Ft. Riley soldiers and is interested in reaching out to veterans in Wichita for their services. She will facilitate setting up a meeting.
  • Call from V2VSC member at Inter-Faith Unit seeking a job.
  • Attended “Mind & Body” group as part of Homefront Initiative led by Dan Lord & Rick Rangle.

11-8-16 Patty:

11-9-16 Hutch & Patty:

  • First Veterans’ Social Group at Greenway Manor, sponsored by Walmart Foundation Community Grant.Met a WWII veteran who is very active sponsored by Walmart Foundation Community Grant.
  • First Veterans’ Social Group at McClean Manor, with 7 veterans in attendance, sponsored by Walmart Foundation Community Grant.
  • (Attendees from both groups were very receptive to meeting once a month as members of V2VSC.)

11-10-16 Patty:

  • Received call from new member of V2VSC from McClean Unit with ideas about developing a FB page for their unit and other ideas.
  • VPCSC Meeting Planning Committee at Alpha 1 Drop Zone. It was decided that we would not hold a meeting in November due to the holiday and focus on December and January meetings.
  • Vet-To-Vet Support Command Advisory Board meeting with 8 members in attendance. Thank you Two Brothers BBQ for sponsoring our dinner.

11-11-16 Patty:

  • Attended Veteran’s Day recognition event at the Veterans’ Park – Steven Gonzales was guest speaker. Met and took pictures of veterans and various war memorials.
  • Co-hosted special recognition event for veterans at Medicalodges of Wichita with 7 veterans receiving flag pins and V2VSC/VPCSC fliers.
  • Prepared for & set up display tables for VPCSC & V2VSC at Holiday Day Inn East for KPTS Veterans Coming Home Banquet.
  • Hutch & Patty – Attended KPTS Veterans Coming Home Banquet as non-profit sponsors of the event, sitting with special invitees. Networked with many guests, honorees and award recipients. Visited with Mike Scholes, key note speaker.

9-24-16 (Sat.) Patty met with 2 Vet-To-Vet Support Command members at Alpha 1 Drop Zone for an outing then had a meeting with them and discussed ideas for community activities for our members. Suggestions included bowling, laser tag, mini-golf, movie night, live music and All-Star Sports. Quarterly events will be scheduled and organized.

9-25-16 (Sun.) Hutch & Patty: Attended American Legion Post # 4 dinner and program for visit from American Legion National Commander, Charles E. Schmidt who was the Key Note Speaker. Attendees included Mayor Jeff Longwell and his wife Suzy. Patty & Hutch were given pins by National Commander Schmidt. Hutch was asked by Post # 256 Commander to attend and speak at their event on 9-28-16 when National Commander Schmidt visits their post; Patty will be a guest.

Patty also contacted 3 American Legion leaders, 2 in Wichita and another in El Dorado for possible transportation assistance for veteran to go to the VA. Patty spoke to Jennifer Garrison at Passageways about veteran in need.

  • Contacted Becci Tanner at the Wichita Eagle regarding Veterans’ Day week events.
  • Contacted Maple Gardens management, re: Veterans’ Group.
  • Contacted Huston Center management, re: Veterans’ Group.
  • Worked on invitations for KPTS Veterans Coming Home event on Nov. 5.
  • Homefront Initiative “Mind & Body” group with Jamie Wohlgemuth from Cloud 9 Therapeutic Equine led by Dan Lord and Rick Rangle.

  • Patty – Contacted United Way Volunteer Center, Becky Springer, re: volunteer recruitment for VPCSC meeting.
  • Patty – Met with manager at Walmart at Maize & Central, scheduled formal thank you and presentation by Hutch and Patty for Oct. 31

  • 1st monthly Veteran’s Social Group at Inter-Faith Ministries with two veterans in attendance.
  • Meeting with John Stansifer, film-maker, playwrite and biographer for Father Kapau, and guest speaker for VPCSC meeting on Oct. 28.
  • Planning for VPCSC meeting.

10-27-16 Patty:

  • Scheduled Herb Duncan with Kansas Honor Flight as guest speaker for Vet-To-Vet Support Command Veteran’s Social at Georgetown Village on Nov. 1.
  • Spoke to Lana Wyckoff, Activities Director at Georgetown Village about Veteran’s Social on Nov. 1.
  • Received call from Sandy Swank at Inter-Faith Ministries regarding starting a Veteran’s Luncheon Group at IFM.
  • Veteran’s Coming Home KPTS event planning on phone with Phil Richardson who requested Patty contact McConnell AFB (see below).
  • Patty contacted McConnell AFB to confirm if Col. Al Miller, Base Commander will be able to attend KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Banquet on Nov. 11 – pending.
  • Also contacted McConnell AFB Public Affairs office to request a singer for the National Anthem for KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Banquet.
  • Contacted Becky Springer, Volunteer Coordinator at United Way about volunteer opportunities for V2VSC and VPCSC to include on their new volunteer website which goes live on Nov. 1.
  • VPCSC meeting reminder sent to Coalition members and guest speaker.
  • Contacted Chaplain Larry T. Brooks at the Robert J. Dole VAMC to gather information for KPTS to include in their Veterans Coming Home Banquet program as he will be delivering the invocation.
  • Received call from American Legion Post 4 Ladies’ Auxiliary regarding sleeping mats they donated to homeless veterans and other homeless individuals, which Patty & Hutch are distributing to both United Methodist Open Door and Inter-Faith Ministries. They are also wanting working with Vet-To-Vet Support Command and the Coalition to adopt a veteran and his/her family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Additionally, a VA employee whose insurance company wants to adopt another veteran and his/her family will be contacting Patty to get them connected to do so.

VPCSC meeting with nearly 50 attendees. Guest speaker, John Stansifer, screenwriter of “Father Kapaun’s Valley, No Bullet Got Me Yet” and official biographer for Father Emil Kapaun of Pilsen, KS.

  • Walmart on W. Kellogg – visited with store manager, Letty about pending Community Grant proposal.
  • Call from Angie Burnham at Work Force Center for a veteran interested in V2VSC.
  • Call from Base Commanders’ office at McConnell AFB, re: VCH event hosted by KPTS .
