Met with Mayor Jeff Longwell – Updated him on Vet-To-Vet Support Command, Inc., VPCSC & “Veteran’s Coming Home” KPTS event that Vet-To-Vet Support Command, Inc. & Veteran Providers’ Coalition of Sedgwick County are sponsoring and promoting. Mayor Jeff Longwell invited Hutch & Patty to join him in the Veteran’s Day Parade on Saturday, November 5th.

Patty & Jamie (Cloud 9) – Participated in Homefront Initiative’s Mind-Body Class for Veteran Providers led by Dan Lord and Rick Rangel.

  • Wichita Independent Business Association (WIBA) luncheon at the Boathouse with speaker: WSU President John Bardo.
  • Met with Dave Unruh, 1st District County Commissioner and informed him about the KPTS Veterans Coming Home Annual Banquet on Veteran’s Day, November 11.
  • Hutch spoke with Dave Unruh, 1st District County Commissioner about updating Sedgwick County Commissioners on the VPCSC & Vet-To-Vet Support Command at one of their meetings near Veteran’s Day.
  • Contacted new V2VSC Fleet Commander regarding meeting his veteran friend.
  • Visited with Larry T. Brooks, Chaplain at Robert J. Dole VAMC and invited him to deliver the invocation at KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Banquet on Veteran’s Day, November 11.
  • Met with Phil Richardson and Ellie Keppy from KPTS with updates on Veterans Coming Home Banquet.
  • Received call from O’Neal Industries in Kansas City informing Patty & Hutch that funding for Vet-To-Vet Support Command to support matching grant funds from another funder will be issued over the next two weeks.
  • Contacted Jim Dunning at Dunning & Dunning CPA for guidance regarding setting up Vet-To-Vet Support Command as an employer.

Patty – spoke to Steve Gonzales, Alpha 1 Drop Zone, regarding their fundraiser for Kansas Honor Flight & Project 22 on Nov. 5. Also visited about the 2017 Veterans Aw areness EXPO which A1DZ has turned over to Hutch & Patty. Thank you Steve!

9-22-16 Patty & Hutch:

  • Formal recognition and thank you for Community Grant for V2VSC at Walmart in Goddard to Store Manager and staff.
  • Provided transportation for 9 veterans to attend VA’s / Compeer Vet-To-Vet (MHA) Mental Health Recovery celebration.
  • Assisted with My VA Kansas Communities information booth at the Sr. EXPO at the Wichita Art Museum.

9-23-16 Hutch & Patty:

  • VPCSC meeting at First UMCwith over 40 attendees. Presentation by Jan Ronald, Founder & Co-Owner of Family Dog Training and Behavioral Center with program about their “Service Dog Program” for veterans with PTSD, depression and anxiety.

9-24-16 (Sat.) Patty met with 2 Vet-To-Vet Support Command members at Alpha 1 Drop Zone for an outing then had a meeting with them and discussed ideas for community activities for our members. Suggestions included bowling, laser tag, mini-golf, movie night, live music and All-Star Sports. Quarterly events will be scheduled and organized.

9-25-16 (Sun.) Hutch & Patty: Attended American Legion Post # 4 dinner and program for visit from American Legion National Commander, Charles E. Schmidt who was the Key Note Speaker. Attendees included Mayor Jeff Longwell and his wife Suzy. Patty & Hutch were given pins by National Commander Schmidt. Hutch was asked by Post # 256 Commander to attend and speak at their event on 9-28-16 when National Commander Schmidt visits their post; Patty will be a guest.

  • Visited with VA Chaplain Larry T. Brooks regarding “Veterans Coming Home” event on Veteran’s Day, where Chaplain Brooks will offer the invocation.

  • Met with Robert Cain, Public Relations Officer at VA about upcoming events in the community and the VA.
  • Visited with active duty WAF who was in 2 TAPS debriefings given by Hutch and seeking community resources.

Hutch: Guest speaker at American Legion Post 256 event with National Commander Charles E. Schmidt as Key Note. Patty was a guest at this event. Hutch & Patty were invited to speak at Derby’s Post 408 on 10-4-16 about VPCSC and V2VSC.

Michael George USAF (Ret), Senior Aerospace Science Instructor/AFJROTC/KS-962, Wichita East High School and Veteran’s Day Parade Chairman regarding having a 4-person youth ROTC Colorguard Team present colors at KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Annual Banquet on Nov. 5 and parade details. (Hutch and Patty were asked by Mayor Jeff Longwell to ride/walk in the Veteran’s Day parade with him.)
  • Patty – Spoke to Jason Wohlgemuth, Cloud 9 about V2VSC funding proposal that will include Cloud 9 individual therapy for veterans.
  • Patty spoke to Brad Webster, Veterans Upward Bound about Veteran’s Day Parade.
  • Progressive Home Health & Hospice contacted Patty to begin providing services to veterans in their care.
  • Patty & Hutch: Sedgwick County Black Republican Council Annual Banquet planning meeting.

10-6-16 Patty & Hutch:

  • Lunch with two Vet-To-Vet Support Command (V2VSC) supporters.
  • Meeting with McConnell AFB Base Commander Col. Al Miller regarding upcoming KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Annual Banquet on November 5th. KPTS offered 6 comp tickets, 2 for each of the 3 wings at McConnell.
  • Presentation at American Legion Post 408 in Derby, KS. Thank you Post 408 for supporting Vet-To-Vet Support Command!

10-7-16 Hutch – Delivered fliers to City of Wichita to post and distribute for upcoming monthly Veteran’s Social Groups at McClean Manor and Greenway Manor.

10-11-16 Patty received referral call from Timmy Hamilton and Brad Gifford at the Wichita Vet Center for a veteran in need. Vet-To-Vet Support Command was able to offer services and make additional referrals.

10-13-16 Patty received call from Salvation Army in El Dorado with referral of a veteran in need who was referred to Connie Jarvais at VA HUD-VASH. Patty also contacted 3 American Legion leaders, 2 in Wichita and another in El Dorado for possible transportation assistance for veteran to go to the VA. Patty spoke to Jennifer Garrison at Passageways about veteran in need.

10-17-16 Hutch & Patty: TAPS debriefing at McConnell AFB to 30 military personnel transitioning out of the service.

Delivered Veterans Appreciation Concert bulletin board to Base Commander’s office to display on base.

Worked on KPTS event promotion.

10-18-16 Patty: Meeting with James Denison, Past VFW Commander and organizer of Wichita’s Annual Pearl Harbor Day Recognition events, Steve Gonzales from Alpha 1 Drop Zone (member of the planning committee) and Rob Cain, Public Affairs Officer (PAO) at Robert J. Dole VAMC regarding 75th Anniversary Pearl Harbor Day Event on December 7 at the VA.

  • Received call from Sandy Swank at Inter-Faith Ministries regarding starting a Veteran’s Luncheon Group at IFM.
  • Veteran’s Coming Home KPTS event planning on phone with Phil Richardson who requested Patty contact McConnell AFB (see below).
  • Patty contacted McConnell AFB to confirm if Col. Al Miller, Base Commander will be able to attend KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Banquet on Nov. 11 – pending.
  • Also contacted McConnell AFB Public Affairs office to request a singer for the National Anthem for KPTS’ Veterans Coming Home Banquet.
  • Contacted Becky Springer, Volunteer Coordinator at United Way about volunteer opportunities for V2VSC and VPCSC to include on their new volunteer website which goes live on Nov. 1.
  • VPCSC meeting reminder sent to Coalition members and guest speaker.
  • Contacted Chaplain Larry T. Brooks at the Robert J. Dole VAMC to gather information for KPTS to include in their Veterans Coming Home Banquet program as he will be delivering the invocation.
  • Received call from American Legion Post 4 Ladies’ Auxiliary regarding sleeping mats they donated to homeless veterans and other homeless individuals, which Patty & Hutch are distributing to both United Methodist Open Door and Inter-Faith Ministries. They are also wanting working with Vet-To-Vet Support Command and the Coalition to adopt a veteran and his/her family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Additionally, a VA employee whose insurance company wants to adopt another veteran and his/her family will be contacting Patty to get them connected to do so.
